Introducing the new TSI engine technology from Volkswagen
Maximum power, minimum fuel consumption and kinder to the environment
Less fuel consumption, lower CO2 emissions combined with more power, more torque, lots more driving fun and all from a 1.4 litre engine with lower road tax - that’s what you can expect from the revolutionary Volkswagen TSI petrol engines. The exceptional fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions are the result of the TSI’s increased torque, which rises by nearly 30 per cent in the 1.4 litre version. To get technical, the new 1.4 TSI delivers an exceptional 200 Nm at 1,500 - 3,500 rpm, compared to the existing 1.6 FSI 115bhp engine, which delivers 155 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The new 1.4 TSI also enables you to enjoy 80 per cent of the maximum torque at engine speeds as low as 1,250 rpm and that’s a gain of 66 per cent compared to the 1.6 FSI.
The new TSI engines utilise a sophisticated turbocharger and exceptional engine technology which allows for an impressive power range spanning from 122 bhp to 170 bhp in the 1.4 litre engine (available in most of the VW model range)In the 2008 Passat range, along with the 1.4 TSI 122 bhp engine there is also a 1.8 TSI engine which develops 160 bhp.
To appreciate some of the options and the absolute versatility of this new engine technology consider this; while the standard Golf 1.4 engine produces 80 bhp, Volkswagen have been able to boost that power with TSI technology to create not only a Golf 1.4 122 bhp but a Golf 1.4 with 140 bhp and a Golf 1.4 with 170 bhp. Similarly, while the Passat 1.6 FSI produces 115 bhp the new Passat 1.4 TSI produces 122 bhp and the Passat 1.8 TSI a sturdy 160bhp. Another super example is the all new Tiguan jeep which is available in 1.4 TSI engines producing either 150 bhp or 170 bhp. All of the above engines can be linked to a choice of either a six speed manual gearbox or the amazing seven speed DSG gearbox (Direct shift gearbox with an automatic mode)
Of course the world renowned Volkswagen TDI diesel engines continue to be offered through out the range with outstanding low CO2 emissions, but for those that prefer the petrol alternative... well then, TSI really is an alternative. For more detailed information or a test drive to experience TSI for yourself please contact us directly on 01 665 6600.
